The British Consulate at Takow The British Consulate at Takao was Taiwan’s first foreign consulate. Completed in 1879, the Consulate is the oldest of all modern Western buildings left in Taiwan as well as the only complete cluster of important historic sites featuring relics of British official residences, ancient paths and offices. The Consulate is a building of the Baroque style of the post Renaissance Period. The redbrick appearance, the drainage pipes resembling bamboo joints, the unique flower beds, the stone sculptures and arches speak for the architectural features of the British Consulate.
Pier-2 The Pier-2 Art Center is an international art platform in Kaohsiung with the philosophy of “vanguard, experiment and innovation.” It is also Taiwan’s largest art center with warehouse clusters near the harbor. It is the 2013 and 2014 winner of the first prize in the category of art center in the Golden Service survey conducted by the CommonWealth Magazine. The Pier-2 Art Center organizes a variety of creative exhibitions, including: the Kaohsiung Design Festival, the Delight of Chinese Character Festival, the International Steel & Iron Sculpture Festival, the International Container Arts Festival and the Youth Innovative Design Festival. There are 24 warehouse exhibition sites in Pier-2, attracting The Wall, In Our Time, Pasadena, ARTCO CO.6, the Rhythm & Hues Studios, the Ham Gallery, the Kaohsiung Authentic Theater , Cheer For, Tools to Liveby, LuLu Cat with Dimples and Bandon Grocery Store to reside here for visitors to experience.
Hongmaogang Located beside the Kaohsiung Second Harbor Entrance, the Hongmaogang Cultural Park is divided into six major sections: the Kaozih Tower Revolving Restaurant, the exhibition hall, outdoor exhibition area, the Sky Walk, the pier and the waiting room, and the observation deck. By displaying Hongmaogang’s residential clusters in an innovative manner, the Park presents to its visitors Hongmaogang’s five cultural characteristics: lagoons, shrimp farming, mullet fishing and draggers, neighborhood temples, and sailing rafts. Although the Hongmaogang clusters are no longer in existence due to the relocation of the village, the lifestyle and spirit of Hongmaogang people remain in the Park.
